The CHCCS Mandarin Dual Language community will be participating with many other organizations to celebrate the Chinese new year. We will have a booth with crafts for the children and promotional materials for the community. Our K-5 classes will be performing and there will be dragon dances for everyone and much, much more! The festival is being held at the William and Ida Friday Center in Chapel Hill. Visit the LIGHTUP Chapel Hill website for more information.
Everyone is invited to a special MAC meeting at the end of the month with Dr. Elaine Watson-Grant, CHCCS Dual and World Languages Coordinator, and Dr. Rydell Harrison, CHCCS Interim Assistant Superintendent for Instructional Services. The meeting will be held Tuesday Feb. 28 at 6pm in the Glenwood media center.
There will be discussion on, among other things, the new Standards Based assessments parents are seeing on report cards, how they may or may not affect MDL specifically, MDL assessment in general, MDL curriculum and classroom pedagogy, and what lies ahead regarding MDL curriculum and pedagogy at the middle and high school levels, which may be different in the future, once the two-track classes (vs. the previous one-track) that started a few years ago make their way to these levels.
We will be prepared to ask questions on these topics and parents are encouraged to bring their own questions or contact us regarding questions you would like us to address.
Hope to see you there!
Come volunteer and promote our program to the community as we join in Chinese New Year celebrations at this event hosted by our friends at the Chinese School at Chapel Hill.
